Commemorative Notecards Available

Summit Free Public Library is excited to announce the release of commemorative notecards celebrating the Library’s upcoming 150th anniversary in 2024. These notecards offer a glimpse into the Library’s evolution across its four distinct eras: 1864 – 1911, 1911 – 1964, 1964 – 1999, and 1999 – present. The first three notecard designs showcase historic etchings by Madeleine Cooke, while artist Shara Bailey has crafted a “retro” rendering of the Library from 1999 to the present, blending Cooke’s classic designs with contemporary artistry.

Shara Bailey, a talented artist and a PhD student in biological anthropology, was recommended by the Visual Arts Center of NJ to undertake this special project. Her research on human origins, spanning cities from New York to Yogyakarta, Indonesia, brings a unique perspective to her artistic creations.

“The 150th anniversary of the Library is a celebration of the many years it has informed, enriched, and inspired our community,” said Amy Behr-Shields, Library Director. “Shara’s rendering of the present-day building not only completes the set but is a perfect blend of its past and present.”

These notecards will be available for purchase starting November 1, just in time for the holiday season. They will be on sale with all other Library merchandise at the Circulation Desk through the year 2024.
