SHS Speech and Debate Team Virtual Tournaments

The Summit High School Speech and Debate Team shine in two virtual tournaments.

The National Speech and Debate Association’s National tournament concluded a very competitive week of virtual competition Saturday. Even though the tournament was online, it was still the largest academic competition in the world attracting 1,322 schools with 5,314 entries from 54 states and territories. Five Summit students were selected to represent New Jersey at the prestigious national tournament: Jeff Fowler, Big Questions Debate; Josh Daley, Programmed Oral Interpretation; Kathleen Landis, Original Oratory; Noah Jay and Lissette Green in Humorous Interpretation. Lissette Green placed 7th out of 200 of the country’s top competitors in Humorous Interpretation. As one of the top 14, Lissette is now pre-qualified to compete in the 2021 NSDA National Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa in June, 2021.

Three of Summit’s team members competed in the “Debate for Change” tournament organized by the Bronx Science Speech and Debate Team students. Freshman, Matt Hecker, won First Place in Original Oratory at the benefit tournament. So proud of our students who “Suit Up, Stand Up, Speak up!”
