End of season and All-State Honors

After a challenging 12-regatta season that included a long stretch of cold, dreary weather, the Summit High School Sailing Team celebrated at their recent Spring Awards Dinner. Congratulations to all our SHS varsity sailors – Lauren Murray, Dara Greengrass, Emma Gumny, Michael Creel, Grace Penque, Peter Huntley-Robertson, Elena Carranza, Brady Parkes, Nikhil Ray, Charlotte Leck, Evy Elbanna, Elodie Hellmuth, Tristan Pohl, and Brynn Penque.  Each of these sailors raced hard this season and delivered a string of strong results for the Hilltoppers.

At the Awards DInner, the team also recognized several sailors for their individual contributions during the spring season.  Brady Parkes was named Most Valuable Skipper, Grace Penque was named Most Valuable Crew, Elena Carranza was named Most Improved Sailor, and Michael Creel was recognized with the Hilltopper Award. Senior Lauren Murray recognized teammate Peter Huntley-Robertson with the “Heads Up“ award.  Coach John Creel said of the team, “We had a great blend of seasoned juniors and seniors and talented freshmen and sophomores that gave us the flexibility to adjust our lineup based on the conditions.  We developed a lot of depth this season that will position us for success in the fall.”

Two Summit Sailors were also recognized with All-State honors at the NJISA Awards Ceremony in May.  Junior Grace Penque was recognized as First Team Crew and senior Lauren Murray was recognized by the Director of the NJISA, Dr. Randall Nunn, with the 2023-2024 Sportsmanship Award.  Congratulations on a great season!
