On Saturday, February 23, 2019, Ayokunnumi “Faithful” Oluwakuyide won first place in a very competitive New Jersey State American Legion Oratorical Contest in Trenton, New Jersey. As our state champion, she will now compete in the National Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana in April.

Cheering her on were her family, Union High School principal Althea Bossard, American Legion Commander John Blank, American Legion- Union High School Co-sponsor teachers Sandra Mangarella and Jon Tummillo, and Union High School History teacher Don Erdman. It was an exciting, nail-biting, heart-stopping event.

Faithful won $4,000 for being first place at the state competition, and she has the opportunity now to win the $18,000 national prize.

Union High School is very proud of our state champion, and we wish her all the best in the national contest.
