Fallen Hero Gold Star Family Street Dedication

Submitted by Capt Jose Vergara and C/TSgt Shristhi Sharma, Civil Air Patrol

On July 1st, the Scotch Plains Veterans Advisory Board, Scotch Plains Major Joshua Losardo, the American Legion, and Civil Air Patrol participated in the Fallen Hero Gold Star Family Street Dedication. The ceremony honored Sgt. Herbert Terry, who made the ultimate sacrifice (his life) during  World War I.

The afternoon commenced with honorary words about Sgt Terry. Four cadets, C/Lt Col Pinto, C/CMSgt Thoguru, C/TSgt Sharma, and C/SSgt Kulkarni from the Civil Air Patrol represented the “Bud” Jackson Squadron through the Color Guard detail. As the colors were presented, two more members from the squadron, C/2nd Lt Rana and SM V. Vergara sang a harmonized National Anthem. Rifle detail from the American Legion shot volleys to honor Sgt Terry and his family, who have lived in Scotch Plains since the American Revolution. Finally, the street received a new name in dedication to this Fallen Hero.
