Rubber Ducky Race 2021 wrap up
Hanson Park Conservancy
After a postponement of the original date of Sunday October 10, 2021 Hanson Park Conservancy successfully held their annual Rubber Ducky Race on Sunday October 17, 2021 at Sperry Park in Cranford, NJ.
On race day, over 1,100 rubber ducks were transported down the river from the Cranford Canoe Club by Ellen McHenry, Walter Gallagher and Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty. The ducks were then tossed into the River right before the waterfalls as the crowd waited patiently as the rubber ducks “raced” their way to the finish line.
Members of HPC, Commissioner of Public Works and Engineering Tom Hannen, Jr, Fire Department Water Rescue and Boy Scouts were in the river waiting at the finish line to collect the winning ducks. They also assisted in getting all the remaining ducks back on dry land.
After the race was finished, prizes were then announced and distributed by Cranford Radio’s own Bernie Wagenblast. Anyone who was not present to receive prizes were contacted the next day by a member of HPC.
All children (and adults) in attendance had a wonderful time and we at HPC are so appreciative of all our Sponsors and Merchants, those who adopted ducks and so many generous donations. HPC decided that due to the devastation left behind by Hurricane Ida a few weeks early, all “ducks are on us” meaning no one was obligated to pay for ducks. Only donations were accepted this year.
Money raised from the Annual Rubber Ducky Race goes directly to park maintenance. Please stop by and visit Hanson Park at 38 Springfield Avenue.
