The Roselle Park High School (RPHS) Interact Club participated in the Rotary’s Hunger 3.6 Project to feed those in need. Deeya Shah, President of the Interact Club, led the RPHS contingent.
The Interact students purchased 1,728 meals from midwest farmers and distributed them to Elmora Food Bank in Elizabeth and Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Community Center in Camden. The meals are pre-packaged, dried meals of rice and beans, mac and cheese, and oatmeal. Funding for the project was provided by Rotary Roselle-Roselle Park and Rotary District 7475.
Interact is the high school version of a Rotary Club. There are other Rotary clubs for youngsters and young adults including Rotaract for college students and EarlyAct for elementary students.
Hunger 3.6, a project of Rotary District 7475, derived its name from the fact that every 3.6 seconds a person dies from hunger somewhere in the world. Rotary District 7475, including 2,000 Rotarians in 83 clubs throughout northern NJ, is very active in this program.
Rotary Roselle-Roselle Park recently participated in a Hunger 3.6 project which brought almost 14,000 meals to the Twin Boroughs. The club, established in 1923, preforms many other community service projects through its Students of the Month and Student Scholarship programs, and supports scouting in Roselle and Roselle Park.
