Rotary Club of Madison Announces September Club Meetings Line-Up

September Club Meetings Line-Up

Madison Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Madison is an enthusiastic and engaged network of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to serve people in our local and global communities. At the Rotary’s weekly meetings, the Club plans and reports on its service projects, and guest speakers present on a broad range of topics that are of interest to the community. Rotary meetings are held each Thursday in person at the Madison YMCA on Kings Road. The Club meeting starts at 7:45 and concludes at 8:30. For September 2021, the Club’s meeting line-up includes:

September 9: Rotary’s featured speaker will be Jim Burnet. Jim will discuss Hillside Cemetery on Main Street in Madison. In addition to his critical role in Madison as the Borough’s Chief Financial Officer, Jim is very active in efforts supporting Hillside Cemetery – not only celebrating its history, but protecting and preserving this downtown treasure.

September 16: In lieu of its regular morning meeting the Club will be holding a happy hour social/networking event. Interested guests should visit the Club’s website at madisonrotarynj.org for details of the event.

September 23: In the first of two sessions on Sustainability, Claire Whitcomb, the head of Madison’s Environmental Commission, will address the “environmental best practices” aspects of sustainability, such as recycling and packaging changes, energy conservation and “decarbonization,” water conservation and control of runoff and the use of “green” techniques in lieu of hardscapes.

September 30: In the concluding session on Sustainability, Ann Huber, a member of Madison’s Environmental Commission and Planning Board, will review how sustainability concepts were brought into the discussions when the Madison Master Plan was being revised last year, including where in the Master Plan sustainability has direct policy implications. This will then also identify areas in which sustainability may come into discussions of municipal policies over the next several years.

To make its meetings widely accessible, the Club will hold the meeting both in-person and online. Interested guests should visit the Club’s website at madisonrotarynj.org for log-in details.

Please note that Rotary meetings, speakers, or speaker schedules are potentially subject to change. Please visit the Rotary website at madisonrotarynj.org for any updates to the schedule and other meeting details.
