Rotary Club of the Plainfields Scholarship Fundraiser Raffle

2021 Scholarship Fundraiser Raffle

Submitted by Michael R. Townley

The Rotary Club of the Plainfields is offering 50/50 raffle tickets as a way of boosting the club’s Scholarship Fund during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The raffle is being run by the club’s area District 7475 which represents over eighty clubs in central and north Jersey. Only 8,000 tickets are being sold, so odds of winning a prize are high.

“We normally hold a Wine Tasting Dinner with presentation of our Service Above Self Award,” said club president Shannon Jefferys. “Like everyone else, our plans for the 2020 event were disrupted and then cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic. This left us without a fundraiser for scholarships that we give to graduating seniors every year.”

To make up for the shortfall of thousands of dollars, the club is promoting the 50/50 Raffle. With tickets priced at just $20.00 each, it is an easy and affordable way for the public in the three Plainfields and beyond to help the club raise needed scholarship funds.

“We have a story on our website at rotarypnp.org that includes an easy to use link for ordering tickets,” said Michael Townley, club secretary. “With just one simple click, you can complete a brief form and order as many tickets as desired using your credit card.”

For those who don’t want to gamble on the 50/50 drawing, direct donations to the Scholarship Fund are also being accepted through the direct link – tinyurl.com/Raffle2021

All money raised through ticket sales or donated to the Scholarship Fund will be used exclusively for scholarship awards.

“Our club will earn $9.75 for each $20 ticket sold,” said Ms. Jefferys. “The remaining $0.25 is used by our District to off-set the printing and postage expenses associated with the raffle. Absolutely all money raised by our club through this raffle will be used exclusively for scholarships.”

The Rotary Club of the Plainfields normally awards over $22,000.00 in scholarships annually from individual funds such as the Rotary F. S. Mathewson Scholarship, the PHS Alumni Association Scholarship, the Leo Albert Friese Scholarship, the J. Wilbur Tovell Scholarship, and the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship. These awards are coordinated through each local high school’s administrative offices.

If you would like more information about the raffle or how to purchase tickets using a check or cash, please contact the club secretary and he will follow up with you – secretary@rotarypnp.org.
