Roselle Park Community Garden Applications Due by April 8

Roselle Park Community Garden Application

The Roselle Park Environmental Commission is accepting applications to rent plots at the community garden for the 2022 growing season, so residents can enjoy the experience of growing nutritious organic produce. The community garden is located at 133 Valley Road in Roselle Park.

The Commission will hold a lottery for Roselle Park residents for the right to rent out a 4’ x 8’ raised garden bed. The beds are filled with organic compost and watered with an automated irrigation system. Anyone interested in entering the lottery should go to sites.google.com/view/RPGarden, or e-mail the commission at environmentalcommissionrp@gmail.com. The cost to rent a raised garden bed for the season is $50.  The Commission will provide seeds and a limited amount of starter seedlings to members, and there may be other benefits such as cut flowers and herbs.

In addition to the rental beds, the Commission and a team of local volunteers will have “market” beds that are designed to grow produce for local food pantries and residents in need throughout the community.

“We not only want to use this garden to grow food, but to educate, serve, and create communities,” said Tim Coakley, garden co-chair and secretary for the Commission. “We hope to plan and hold multiple events this season. We have a newly built stage and pergola thanks to the hard work of Donald and Dexter Chin, and former Commission chair Arnulfo Toro.”

The Commission will accept applications for the lottery until Friday, April 8, 2022 The winners will be selected through the lottery on Saturday, April 9. One application per household, please.
