Rahway Summer Concert Series Line-Up
Mayor Giacobbe and the Rahway City Council officially announced the return of the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series, on Thursday nights in August. Each concert begins at 7:30 p.m., rain or shine, in front of the Union County Performing Arts Center (1601 Irving Street). Admission is free and a beer garden will be on-site and will serve as a fundraiser for Rahway’s first responders.
Opening the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series on Thursday, August 5 is The Soul of Broadway, starring Terron Brooks, performing classic and contemporary Broadway songs. Brooks is a two-time NAACP Award and Ovation Award nominee and best known for his portrayal as Eddie Kendrinks in NBC’s mini-series The Temptations and starring in Broadway’s Lion King and Hairspray. Opening for The Soul of Broadway is Day One, a popular local hard rock cover band.
On Thursday, August 12, the City of Rahway welcomes En Vogue, an American R&B/pop vocal group who have had three consecutive platinum albums and six Top Ten pop hits during the 1990’s, with some of their biggest hits being “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It), “Hold On”, “Whatta Man” and “Free Your Mind”. Opening for En Vogue is Rusty Monks, a popular Rahway-based band with a groove-oriented funk/rock/latin/jazz sound.
Closing out the Mayor’s Summer Concert Series on Thursday August 19 is the POP2000 Tour hosted by *NSYNC’s Lance Bass and featuring Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, with performances by OTOWN and LFO. The POP2000 tour will have audience members reminiscent of early 2000 MTV moments with platinum-selling artists from the time. A special guest DJ will be opening for the POP2000 Tour.
