AUGUST 2017 EVENTS

ESL Conversation Group: Improve your confidence and ability to speak English by joining our weekly conversation group. Learn and have fun in a relaxed setting. The group meets weekly in the library computer lab. No registration necessary. Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:30pm.

Knit & Crochet Club: Bring your hooks, needles, and yarn. Work on a project or learn a new technique! Program is free for teens and adults. Thursdays, August 3 & 17 at 6:30pm.

Career Inspiration – Organizing an Effective Online Job Search: Searching the virtual job market can be an overwhelming and discouraging experience. Certified Career Counselor Erica Bell will help you develop an action plan that increases success and reduces stress! Monday, August 14 at 10:00am.

Career Inspiration – Are You LinkedIn?: If you aren’t already using LinkedIn, you should be. It is estimated that over 90% of job recruiters use LinkedIn to find personnel. Certified Career Counselor Erica Bell will help you set up a LinkedIn profile that will get you noticed! Monday, August 28 at 10:00am.

Book Bingo: Match up titles to win books and other prizes! This program is open to adults (age 18+). Everyone wins! Wednesday, August 16 at 1:00pm.

Readers Circle Book Club: Join us for the discussion of Come Hell or Highball by Maia Chance. Wednesday, August 16 at 2:00pm. 

Friends of the Library Fundraiser: Join us for a Friends of Rahway Public Library “Paint it Forward” fundraiser by Wine & Design and paint Galaxy Palms! Must be 21+. Ticket price: $45. Thursday, August 24 6:45pm at Wine & Design 1439 Main Street, Rahway.

TEEN EVENTS

Teen Summer Reading Challenge: Pick up a Teen Reading Challenge sheet at the Reference Desk. Complete 3 of the challenges listed and bring the form back to receive a token prize. This will also enter you into a Grand Prize raffle for a Kindle Fire at the end of the summer.

Build A Better World Teen Movie Series: Join us at 2:00pm on Mondays in August as we screen films that will inspire you to Build a Better World for you, your family, and your community! These films will be free, PG-13 rated, and shown in our surround sound auditorium. All are welcome to attend. August 7 and 14.

Teen Thursday Activity Afternoons: 8/3 at 2:00pm in our Discovery Studio. DIY Buffet! Make a masterpiece with our assortment of crafty supplies.

 CHILDREN’S EVENTS

Story Time on the Go: Thursdays at 11:00am at the Rahway Farmer’s Market. Join us at the Train Station Plaza for a special family story time. Following the stories, join the “Chalk Talk Activity” and exercise your creativity. With the Rahway Arts & Business Partnership and the Recreation Center.

Storywalk: Get outdoors with StoryWalks™! A NJ Audubon Naturalist will lead you along the easy-to-follow paths at Hawk Rise while reading along to a story page-by-page. All ages. Wednesday, 8/2 at 10:00am & 11:30am.

Take and Make Mondays: On Mondays through August 21, drop by the library to take a craft-in-a-bag home. Make it, take a picture, and tag it to the library’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Science for Kids: Volunteers from Union County 4-H will make science experiments with kids. Ages 7+. Wednesdays, August 2 & 9 at 2:00pm.

Crafternoons: Join us to learn a new craft each week. Ages 5+. Thursday 8/3 at 3:30pm.

Preschool Dance Party: Dance to the music & play some instruments! Ages 6 and under. Friday 8/4 at 11:00am.

STEMtastic Tuesdays: Make a STEM project at the library. Ages 5+. Tuesdays August 4 & 8 at 3:00pm.

Color a Smile: Drop by the library at any time to color a drawing for a person in need of a smile! Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to senior citizens, our troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. Saturdays August 5 & 19 all day.

Lego Club: Make something out of Legos and put it on display! Ages 5+. Monday 8/7 at 6:30pm.

Toddler Time: We will be talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing during this literacy readiness storytime. Ages birth – 4 with caregiver:  Wednesdays at 10:30am 8/9 & 8/23.

Satur-Game Day: Bring the whole family to play some games from the library’s game collection, or bring your own to share! Saturday 8/12 at 2:00pm.

Kids Movie: Watch a family friendly movie at the library. Refreshments served. All ages. Fridays at 2:00pm 8/4, 8/11 & 8/25.

Doll Tea Party: Bring your favorite doll to this special tea party at the library for snacks, stories, and of course—tea! Ages 4 and up. Call or visit the children’s department to register. Tuesday 8/22 at 3:00pm.

Sciencetellers: Celebrate the end of Summer Reading Club with us! Explore the incredible science behind clouds, flash paper, air pressure, inertia, explosions, and more with the Sciencetellers and their brand new program, Tall Ships & Pirate Tales! Thursday 8/24 at 3:00pm.

Junior Lego Club: Make something out of Legos and put it on display! Ages 2-5. Friday 8/25 at 11:00am.
