FOR ADULTS

Operating the Orion StarBlast Telescope
Wednesday, September 5 – 7 p.m.
Joseph Molnar of the Morris Museum Astronomical Society will instruct participants in the use of the library’s Orion StarBlast telescope and will discuss the constellations visible now and in the coming months.

NEW! Chess Club for Adults
Saturdays, September 8 & 22; October 13 & 27 – 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Are you a chess player looking for partners and a comfortable place to play close to home? This club is for you! Enjoy a game of chess on a Saturday afternoon twice a month. We will provide chess boards and pieces, and even a chess clock! No registration required.

Microsoft Office 2010 Word Intermediate Workshop
Monday, September 10 – 2 p.m.
Barbara Smith, owner and instructor at Programs Plus, will lead this workshop on Microsoft Word 2010. Navigating, formatting, setting up paragraphs, inserting and editing pictures are some intermediate topics that will be covered. The library will provide laptops for 10 attendees; however, if you have Microsoft Word 2010 on your own laptop, you may bring it to participate in the class.

English as a Second Language
Thursdays, September 13 through November 1

For those wanting to improve their English language skills, we are starting our next cycle of ESL classes. The program will be conducted by Language Education and Resource Network (LEARN) and volunteer tutors for 8 weeks. Students will be divided into small groups by skill level. Books and other learning materials will be provided. The program is free – all you need is a commitment to learn! Register online, in person, or call 973-635-0603.

Social Security Workshop: 67 Is the New 65
Monday, September 24 – 7 p.m.
Retired Human Resources professional Neil Berger will present this Social Security workshop. Topics such as how much you can earn in a year and still collect Social Security benefits; whether you can collect benefits on your ex-spouse’s work record; and when you should apply will be discussed in layman’s terms.

The Beatles: 50 Years Later
Wednesday, September 26 – 7 p.m.
Barry Wiesenfeld, a freelance musician, published author, and faculty member of SUNY and Ramapo College, will present a lecture with musical accompaniment on the Beatles and how they changed music through their originality, musical innovations and lyric depth.

Japanese Anime Drawing Workshop
With Comic Book Artist Doug Baron
Thursday, September 20 – 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Grades 6 to 12; Limit: 20 students
Registration opens Thursday, September 6
Doug will show examples of his comic book art and give a brief summary of the thought process behind each piece. The students will then draw Japanese anime characters along with Doug as he breaks down the characters from their most basic shapes to completed forms. He will ask trivia questions where the students can earn “funny money” to win Doug’s drawings at the end of the session. Each student will go home with one of his drawings.

Cauldron Cake Pops & Spell Book S’mores
Friday, September 21 – 4 to 5 p.m.
Grades 6 to 12; Limit: 12 students

Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter with these special treats! Use chocolate, icing, and candy to conjure up some cauldron cake pops. We will also make s’more textbooks to help you study for your History of Magic or Transfiguration classes.

Harry Potter Escape Room: Escape from Azkaban!
Friday, September 28 – 6:45 p.m.
Grades 6 to 12; Limit: 24 participants
Registration opens Friday, September 14
Come and celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter! Imagine: you are a guard in Azkaban and have been locked inside the prison by some escapees. As a group you will have 45 minutes to use your knowledge of the Wizarding World to solve clues that will lead you to freedom and return the escaped prisoners to their cells.

FOR CHILDREN

Rizzo’s Wildlife World
Tuesday, September 18 – 4 to 5 p.m.
Ages 4 & Up
This fun wildlife program features 8 to 10 animals (snakes, lizards, frogs, turtles, insects, and small mammals) as well as our baby alligator! Children will learn about the animals, where they are from, and what they like to eat. Best of all, the children can interact with or touch the majority of the animals! This program is a one-of-a-kind experience!
