Presbyterian Church Marks 100th Year

Watchung Avenue Presbyterian Church (WAPC) is celebrated its 100th Anniversary, on Sunday April 30th with a special combined service with our sister church, Trinity United Church of Warren.
WAPC has served the North Plainfield community since 1916, both spiritually and with community based outreach. For more than 15 years, we were the location of a subsidized Head Start program for children 3-5 years old.
Today, we are home to several community programs, including the North Plainfield YMCA After-School Program, the WIC program, which provides needed assistance to women, children, and infants, English as a Second Language classes, Zumba fitness classes, the local Girl and Boy Scout troops, a Spanish speaking AA Program, and the Joshua’s Closet Thrift Store, which donates the earnings from the reasonable sale of items to cancer research.
We share our sanctuary with two additional Spanish speaking congregations, and we have recently started new relationships with the Beta Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the Barack Obama Green Charter High School of Plainfield.
Throughout its history, WAPC has always reached out to our neighbors and our community. So as we celebrate this 100th Anniversary, we keep these thoughts in mind, “Cherish our Past, Live in the Present and Go Forward in Faith”.
