Outreach Program for the Homeless

Submitted by Shawn Mathew

The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, The City of Linden Mayor’s Office for Constituent Services, Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church and St. Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church teamed up on March 31, 2022 to host an intensive outreach program for the homeless at the Linden Multi-Purpose Center located at 1025 John Street.

Free food bags, meals, snacks, and clothing were distributed to support the homeless community in Linden and Union County. The Union County Department of Social Services and Bridgeway Behavioral Health Services were on hand to answer questions and provide valuable resources.  The youth of St Mary’s Orthodox Church in Linden conducted an art fundraiser to support the event. The young artists ranged from kindergarten to tenth grade. They were able to express their spiritual faith through art. Their beautiful paintings of Noah’s Ark, Jesus’ baptism, and more were auctioned to raise the proceeds for this charitable cause.
