Visit the Stirling firehouse on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 321 Somerset St., Stirling between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for this once a year free exciting open house event. It will take place rain or shine.
Activities will be presented throughout the day for children and adults that include free rides on Stirling’s restored 1939 Smokeater fire engine (a unique experience) and live demonstrations of the Jaws of Life on wrecked cars in the firehouse parking lot at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Attendees can shoot water from a real fire hose and learn how to use a fire extinguisher. There will be free fire hats and fire safety coloring books for the kids. Try on a firefighter’s firefighting gear (you’ll be surprised how heavy it is), tour the firehouse, and sit down and talk with some of Stirling’s firefighters while enjoying a free hot dog, baked beans, salads, and soda or water.
There will be free brief fire safety and prevention training for children and adults where attendees will get to see what a firefighter looks like wearing all his gear, including the self-containing breathing apparatus.
It’ll be a fun day for all, so mark your calendars and plan to attend. Fire safety is important to us all. Did you know a fire in a house doubles every 30 seconds? So let’s take a few minutes during this fun fire safety and prevention event to learn some simple facts about fire safety. Please park on Union Street or the railroad station parking lot.
The Stirling Volunteer Fire Co. is 100% comprised of Long Hill Township residents who give freely of their time 24/7 every day of the year since 1913. So come out and help them celebrate fire prevention week and thank them for their selfless work as volunteer firefighters, among Long Hill Township’s bravest.
