Submitted by Susan Alacchi, EMT

The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad (CVES) is pleased to announce that Nicole Lenkiewicz was awarded this year’s Jarvais Scholarship. CVES Vice-President and Captain, Charles J. Poyssick recently presented Nicole with the award at the squad’s monthly meeting.

Nicole is a 2023 graduate from Arthur L. Johnson High School. She is in the top 10% of her class taking eight AO (advance placement) courses and is a Key Club member. As a Key Club member, she was responsible for running the entire Union County’s Key Clubs, which numbers about 700 students. She rechartered a defunct Elizabeth, NJ Key Club, which allows hundreds of children to volunteer. Nicole has given private tennis lessons to younger children and ran summer camps with about a dozen children each day while helping them improve their gameplay.

Nicole has an impressive resume for someone so young. She holds several jobs and is an interpreter for Polish speaking customers. Nicole has formed an organization and volunteered at a refugee relief program in Poland. Along with co-founding a Math and a History National Honor Societies, she formed an organization and volunteered at a refugee relief program in Poland. Nicole founded an online tutoring organization, working with Ukrainian and Polish students while receiving recognitions from eight schools in those countries. She has organized fund raisers, and collected donations that were delivered to the Ukraine border. Nicole supervised the children of refugees and provided over 200 children with an education in the Polish language. To get a taste of the medical field, Nicole is the president and representative of the Scrub Club, a health care exploration program.

Nicole’s parents, Tomasz and Katarzyna, told the squad how proud they are of their daughter. “She works very hard,” said Mrs. Lenkiewicz. Mr. Lenkiewicz agreed with his wife, adding, “We are so proud of Nicole’s accomplishments.”

Nicole is a Clark resident and is planning to attend college in the fall to pursue a career in medicine. CVES is proud to help Nicole realize her goal by awarding her the Jarvais Scholarship.

Al Jarvais was a long-time member of CVES who passed away while responding to a call during a heavy snowstorm. For more information on the scholarship or other information, please contact Susan Alacchi at salacchi@hotmail.com.
