New Providence to hold Veteran’s Day Remembrance Ceremony

Veteran’s Day Remembrance For so many who gave so much

Submitted by Linda Kale

Veterans, family and friends are cordially invited to attend the Eleventh Hour Service at American Legion Post 433, located at 357 Elkwood Avenue, New Providence. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 11, 2019.

This day 101 years ago, commemorates the cessation of hostilities during WWI between Allied and German forces at “the Eleventh Hour on the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month” 1918. After four years of bitter fighting, the Great War was finally over. The Armistice was signed at 5 a.m. in a railway carriage in the forest of Compiegne, France on November 11, 1918. Six hours later at 11 a.m. the war ended.

This year we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as “the patriotic organization devoted to mutual helpfulness and social change for hundreds of benefits for our veterans and the important programs for our children and youth.”

Doors at the Post Home will open at 10:30 a.m., please be there before 10:45 a.m. so all are settled in for the events of the day. The American Legion Post #433 members will lead an inspiring short service promptly at 11:11 a.m. to remind us of that momentous occasion as we also honor our local Veterans lost during 2019.

Food provided by local restaurants and establishments will be served. Our New Providence Senior CitizenClub members will also provide desserts. And there will be music by our local vocalists, Kathy Martin and Mary Damato, “The Cover Girls.” A Musical Tribute with service anthems, songs of the ‘American Song Book’ as well as favorite songs of the 1940s through 1970s.

We hope that you will join us for this occasion to thank our veterans for their sacrifices for our country. Please share this invitation with any veterans or others who might wish to share the importance of this day with you. We want to thank them as well.

RSVP by November 4,2019 to theDeCorsocenter@newprov.org or by leaving a message at 908-656-0046.
