New Providence Lions Club Easter Parade 2021
Submitted by Linda Kale
This was our second year of not holding our annual Easter Egg Hunt because of the Covid-19 restrictions. “We came up with the next best thing,” commented the event chairman, Andre’ Lobuff, “a car drive thru Easter parade and coloring contest for the younger children of the borough.”
Saturday, March 27th was a beautiful day, and a wonderful turnout of approximately 140 cars rode thru the community pool parking lot. Children dropped off their art for the contest, waved to Mr. and Mrs. Bunny and were given a bag of toys and a balloon.
In the receiving line waving back to the children and parents were school representatives from Sproutlings, Allen W. Roberts, Salt Brook, and the New Providence Presbyterian Church.
Also participating in the line-up were New Providence government officials, borough employees, police and fire departments, and the Emergency Rescue Squad.
“This was a great example of how all the members of the New Providence community came together to make a wonderful event for the kids, despite these difficult times. This drive through event was a novel way to have our annual Easter Egg Hunt with the kids getting balloons, toys and gift bags.
Every part of the New Providence community participated. Lions’ volunteers, local teachers, police officers, fire department members, EMT personnel, municipal workers from many different departments, our Mayor and many members of our Town Council, as well as the residents of our town,” Commented Lion club member, Mark Ondris.
