November 3, 17 @ 3:45-4:45PM – Math Club (Kids & Teens)

Join the NP Math Club and hone your problem-solving skills while meeting with other math enthusiasts. Meetings are held every Friday at the NP Library from 3:45-4:45PM. Run by NP Teens, open to students in 2-12th grades. Email NPMLTeens@gmail.com to register.

November 4, 18  @ 10 AM – 4 PM CRAFTERDAY (Children)  

Come by the Coddington Room and use the materials and instructions that have been left out on the tables.  Take home what you create.  While supplies last!   This program is made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

November 4, 18, 25  @ 3 PM – 4:30 PM – SAT Math Help Club (Teens)

Tutoring sessions for students who are looking for help with the math portion of the SAT. High School students are invited to come discuss the sections they need help with. Run by a NP Teen. Email NPMLTeens@gmail.com.

November 4 @ 6-9 PM – Interactive Murder Mystery Theater Evening (Adults 21+)

The Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library invite you to their Fall Fundraising Event.  Come “dressed to kill,” enjoy wine, appetizers & dessert, and mingle with fellow sleuths & suspects. Including a door prize & silent auction.

November 5 @ 2 PM – 3 PM – College Essay Help (Teens)

Register for a half hour slot to work on your college essay with a tutor. A professional writing tutor and instructor of Honors Research Writing will help you get your college essay ready to submit. Scheduling preferences given to High School seniors. Email NPMLTeens@gmail.com 

November 5 @ 3 PM – 3:50 PM – Sound Meditation/ Sound Bath with Kathy Martin (Adults)

Join Kathy Martin, a 3rd level sound practitioner experienced in Himalayan singing bowls, and various other meditative instruments, for a Sound Meditation. Enjoy the hypnotic rhythm and sound that balance and relax you from the inside out.  Lie or sit down while she guides you through a sound experience to reach new levels of relaxation. Please wear comfortable clothes, bring a mat and any other items you may want, like a blanket or small pillow.  This program was made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. Local author Meredith Rusu reads from her new book “There’s a Yeti in My Tummy.”  Coddington Room.

November 6, 13, 20, 27 @ 4:30-7:30PM – NP Chess Club (Kids, Teens & Adults)

Learn to play chess from the NP Chess Club! Instructional Lectures & Strategy from 4:30-5:30 in the Conti Room, followed by play from 5:30-7:30. Open to kids, teens, and adults. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Register at least 1 day in advance at npchessclub.org

November 8  @ 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM Snap Circuit Jr. Club (Kids)

The Snap Circuit Jr. Club is back for children 1st grade and up.  Learn about electronics, science, technology and engineering with mini experiments.  The club will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.  

November 9 @ 2 PM – “Get Good with Money” with Budgetnista Tiffany Aliche (Adults)

A virtual talk with author Tiffany Aliche, who was a successful preschool teacher with a healthy nest egg when a recession and advice from a shady advisor put her out of a job and into a huge financial hole. As she began to chart the path to her own financial rescue, the outline of her ten-step formula for attaining both financial security and peace of mind began to take shape. November 9 @ 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM – Book Group “The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World” (Adults)

The book group will discuss “The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World” by Laura Imai Messina. Yui, who lost her mother and her daughter in the 2011 tsunami, hears about a man who has an old disused telephone booth in his garden. There, those who have lost loved ones find the strength to speak to them and begin to come to terms with their grief. Copies available to check out at the front desk one month before the discussion.

November 12 @ 2 PM- 3 PM Teens Teaching: An Introduction to Topology (Children & Teens)

Come check out our newest series! Each month a High School junior or senior will lead a session to teach younger students about niche topics that may not be covered in school. November’s topic is aerodynamics, the way objects move through air and how airplanes fly! A great opportunity for younger students to learn from high school upperclassmen in a fun setting. November 13 @ 6:30 PM – 9 PM – Batter Up – Let’s Talk Baseball (All Ages)

Baseball enthusiasts are invited to discuss teams, players and issues of the sport with other baseball fans. Now in its ninth year, this group of mostly seniors welcomes all ages to join the discussion.  Join via zoom or in person in the Conti Room. November 14 @ 1 PM – Movie Matinee “Book Club: The Next Chapter” (Adults)

“Book Club: The Next Chapter” (2023) will be screened in the Conti Room. This PG-13 sequel to “Book Club” (2018) starring Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, and Candice Bergen follows four best friends as they take their book club to Italy for the fun girls trip they never had. When things go off the rails and secrets are revealed, their relaxing vacation turns into a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure. Movie screenings are made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

November 16 @ 4 PM – Why She Writes – An Afternoon Chat with Joy Harjo, Internationally Renowned Performer, Writer and Poet of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation

United States Poet Laureate Joy Harjo joins us for a chat online about her most recent memoir, Catching the Light, and to discuss her lifetime as a writer and poet. Comprised of vignettes that take us through the author’s life journey as a youth in the late 1960s, a single mother, and a champion of Native nations, Catching the Light offers a fresh understanding of how poetry functions as an expression of purpose, spirit, community, and memory. November 18 @ 10:30 AM – Paint Your Own Reusable Bag in the Madhubani Style (Adults)

Gunjan Maheshwari returns with another DIY painting craft inspired by the madhubani style of Indian art.  Participants will receive a reusable grocery bag that they will paint a design on. This program was made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library. 

November 18 @ 1:30 PM -2:30 PM  Lil Al Dinosaur presented by Pearl Observatory (Ages 3-8) 

Junior Paleontologists (you!) will help assemble a life-sized baby Allosaurus, bone by bone in the Conti Room! Also, touch a real dinosaur egg and a real dinosaur tooth! November 19 @ 3 PM -4:30 PM – Sam Edelston on Dulcimer (All Ages) 

Sam Edelston is not your ordinary Dulcimer musician. He plays to many musical tastes: rock, pop, blues, country, classical, a bit of jazz, and of course folk music; and all on the acoustic and electric dulcimer. He aims not just to expand the horizons of dulcimer players, but to expand the common repertoire of the instrument.  This free concert is sponsored by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.  Free, everyone is welcome.

November 21 @ 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM-  Book Group “There, There” by Tommy Orange (Adults) 

The book group will discuss “There, There” by Tommy Orange. “There, There” grapples with the complex history and identity of Native Americans. It follows twelve characters, each of whom has private reasons for traveling to the Big Oakland Powwow.  Copies will be available to check out one month prior to the meeting.  

November 28  @ 6:35 PM – 8:05 PM – Read to a Dog (1st – 4th Graders)

November 28 @ 7 PM – 8 PM – College Admission Session with Club Z (Teens)

Students will be given a high-level overview of the admission process and the key considerations that colleges look for. Financial aid information will also be discussed including scholarships/grants, FAFSA and CSS. For high school students and their parents.

November 29  @ 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM Lego Club (Kids)

Lego Club is back and will meet usually on the 4th Wednesday of each month!  Build a creation to fit the monthly theme or just make your own creation.  Themed creations will be on display in the children’s room until the following month.  

November 30 @ 3:00 PM – Sign up for December Teen Take Out Boxes (Teen)

Teen Take Out is a monthly box of fun for NP teens in grades 6-12 with a current NPML library card. Each month, we put together a box for you including fun treats like snacks, crafts, bookmarks, buttons, stickers, and more. Plus, we select a YA Fiction book for you based on your answers to our questionnaire!
