All month in November -Gift Wrapping Supplies Donations
If you have extra gift wrapping supplies at home, please drop them off at the library anytime during the month of November. This includes: unused wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, gift boxes, tissue paper, gift bags, gift tags/stickers, scissors, tape, etc. We will collect it all and have it out in our meeting room during the month of December for the community to use as a free wrapping station, away from little eyes at home!

Crafternoon
November 5, 19 at 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Come by the Coddington Room and use the materials and instructions that have been left out on the tables. Take home what you create. While supplies last! This program is made possible by the Friends of the NPML.

Documentary: “Women of the White Buffalo” (Adults)
November 5 at 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.
The Diversity Committee of New Providence co-sponsors this free screening of “Women of the White Buffalo” for Native American Heritage Month. “Women of the White Buffalo” follows nine modern Lakota women of all ages living on two reservations in South Dakota. In return for free screening rights, the filmmakers ask for support for nonprofits operating on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations where the film was shot. Knit/Crochet Night (Adults)
November 7 at 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

NP Chess Club (Kids, Teens & Adults)
Nov 7, 14, 21, 28 at 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Learn to play chess from the NP Chess Club! Weekly play every Monday night from 5:30-7:30 in the Coddington Room starting Sept 19. Instructional Lectures & Strategy on September 19, October 3, 17, November 7, 28, December 5, 19 from 4:30-5:30 in the Conti Room. Open to kids, teens and adults ages X and up. Monthly Movie (Adults)
November 8 at 1 p.m. – 3:05 p.m.
“Where the Crawdads Sing,” a coming-of-age story set in the marshlands of North Carolina in the 1950s, will be screened in the Conti Family Room. Abandoned by her family, Kya Clark is mysterious and wild. When the town hotshot is found dead, the Marsh Girl is the prime suspect in his murder.

Book Group (Adults)
November 10 at 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
The book group will discuss “The Cold Millions” by Jess Walter, a portrait of class divisions and familial bonds. In the early 20th century, orphaned brothers Gig and Rye work grueling, odd jobs and sleep wherever they can at night. When Rye, a union man, catches the eye of suffragette Elizabeth Gurley, he is swept into the world of labor activism and dirty business. Copies will be available to check out at the front desk one month beforehand.

Lil Al Dinosaur presented by Pearl Observatory (Ages 3-8)
November 10 at 10:30-11:15
Junior Paleontologists (you!) will help assemble a life-sized baby Allosuarus, bone by bone in the Conti Room! Also, touch a real dinosaur egg and a real dinosaur tooth! Banjo Rascals (All Ages)
November 13 at 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.
Banjo Rascals always provide a fun filled family show, from classic Scott Joplin rags to traditional banjo sing-a-longs, vocals in three-part harmony, to great Dixieland Jazz to classic Country & Western music to 50s & 60s rock-n-roll. This concert is part of the annual concert series sponsored by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

Batter Up – Let’s Talk Baseball (All Ages)
November 14 at 7 p.m.- 9 p.m.
You’re invited to discuss teams, players and issues of the sport with other baseball enthusiasts. Now in its eighth year, this group welcomes all ages of fans. To join the group, stop by the reference desk or email the library at rsvp@newprovidencelibrary.org.

Book Group (Adults)
November 15 at 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
The book group will discuss “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro. In this luminous tale, Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro looks at our rapidly changing modern world through the eyes of an “Artificial Friend” – a solar powered robot with outstanding observational skills – to explore a fundamental question: what does it mean to love? Copies will be available to check out at the front desk one month beforehand.

MRE Prep & Tasting (Teens)
November 22 at 5:00 p.m.
MRE = Meal, Ready-to-Eat Prepare & TASTE real MREs! Learn how military and survivalists prepare, heat and eat real MREs while camping, deployed, or wherever you may be. We’ll prepare a variety of MRE meals and divide them into tasting samples so everyone can taste & vote for their favorites! Email NPMLTeens@gmail.com to RSVP by November 10.
