New Providence High School Presents Little Shop of Horrors
On March 13 and 14, 2020, New Providence High School is pleased to present the sci-fi musical comedy favorite Little Shop of Horrors.
According to StageAgent, “Little Shop of Horrors, … an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, features Seymour Krelborn as a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names ‘Audrey II’ after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for human blood.”
What happens next, you will have to see to believe!
But what happens in January, February and early March at New Providence High School is where the true magic occurs for the students. This is when cast, pit and crew work hard as individuals. They hone their skills, steadily become separate, talented units – each important and indispensable – finally culminating into a cohesive, entertaining production.
During these months, the cast members memorize lines, choreography, and vocals while working with one another and off one another. Pit members, too, have much to learn and memorize, and quickly move from solo musical instruments to an orchestra without which, the story is only partially told. Crew accomplishes everything and anything needed from building the set, creating lighting and sound design for the production, and working behind the scenes during the actual performance.
Come out in March to see what these talented students have accomplished. Showtimes for Little Shop of Horrors are Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at “Seat Yourself” online ticketing.
