NEW PROVIDENCE ANNOUNCES SUMMER PAVING PROJECTS

Over the summer months, New Providence will benefit from significant infrastructure work throughout our community. PSE&G and NJ American Water Company are currently replacing their aging water and gas mains, which will require trenching on various roadways, most notably on Springfield Avenue. After the new gas and water mains are installed, the impacted roadways will be repaved. While we expect a certain level of inconvenience and disruption, we are seeking the cooperation and understanding from our residents. These are critical long term upgrades to the essential infrastructure in New Providence.
Central Avenue, between South Street and Springfield Avenue, is scheduled to be milled and paved beginning in early July. Funding permitting, paving Central Avenue between Springfield Avenue and the Chatham line will also occur. In addition, milling and paving is anticipated on Whitewood Drive, Acorn Drive, Overhill Road, a portion of Southgate Road, Ryder Way and Jones Drive. We will update the timing of these projects as the information becomes available.
Union County will be milling and repaving Mountain Avenue, between Diamond Hill Road and Division Avenue.
Additionally, sidewalk repair work will be completed throughout the municipality. Any residents with specific concerns about a sidewalk are asked to please use the “contact us” form on the borough’s website to report your concerns.
