Staff recognized for assisting in accident
Warren Township Schools
On April 24, 2023, Dr. Mingle and the Board of Education recognized Mt. Horeb School Nurse Doris Zanchelli and Mt. Horeb School Principal Scott Cook for their contributions and efforts in assisting the Warren Township Police Department.
On February 23, 2023, a severe motor vehicle accident occurred at the entrance of Mt. Horeb School, resulting in life-threatening injuries for the driver. According to Officer Eric Task, Zanchelli immediately jumped into action, assisting the police with the care of the individual. Zanchelli performed many crucial functions, which allowed Task and Officer Anthony Campnelli to focus on other critical injuries.
“Her composure helped bring solace to an already chaotic situation,” added Task. “I must commend Nurse Zanchelli’a action on that day as her role in the care and treatment of the victim was pivotal in ensuring they could be transferred to a higher level of care. It brings comfort knowing that Nurse Zanchelli is a part of the team at Mt. Horeb.”
As Nurse Zanchelli was assisting at the scene, Principal Scott Cook joined forces with officers to maintain the safety of all students, staff, and visitors. With Cook’s assistance, Officer Task was able to coordinate a quick response of emergency personnel.
“Our staff members regularly practice crisis response with the hope that they will never have to put that training into action. Nurse Zanchelli and Principal Cook rose to the challenge when circumstances called for decisive action. We are lucky to have them,” stated Dr. Matthew Mingle, Superintendent.
