August Programs Sizzle at the Mountainside Public Library

Mountainside Public Library August 2023

The library is a cool place for hot programs for adults, teens, and children throughout August.

Music lovers of all ages will not want to miss Boppa Chua at 6:30 on Thursday, August 10, featuring NY Blues Hall of Fame inductee, Marc Black, as your guide for a trip through memorable and colorful 1950s and 60s, joyfully woven together in song. The two-person show is a multi-media and multi-dimensional presentation in song and storytelling with plenty of laughter. From bobby socks, through the space race, and on to civil rights and classic. The repertoire includes songs as diverse as Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-dot Bikini and Blowin’ in the Wind and is sure to delight the audience.

At 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 23, adults, teens, and children ages 7 and older can join the Raptor Trust’s Rehab to Release Program to learn more about wild bird care and rehabilitation. The program involves hands-on activities in the form of a Jeopardy-style game that requires the participants to work together and think through problems The Raptor Trust staff face every day. This program was designed to help participants understand and when birds need help, and what the Raptor Trust does for the 5,000 avian patients they treat every year.

Adults can tap their creativity and paint (and snack) along with The Artful Easel at 6pm on Thursday, August 24. No experience is necessary, all materials and light refreshments will be provided, and everyone takes home a painting. There is a $10 fee per person. Space is limited and registration is required.

For children, tweens, and teens two favorites are back by popular demand: robotics programs and reading to therapy dogs, Bubbles and Magnolia. These programs fill quickly. For required registration, email eperrin@mountainsidelibrary.org. The robotics programs are organized by age. Complete descriptions are available on the library website at www.mountainsidelibrary.org.

For the youngest patrons and their caregivers there is Family Story Time at 10:30am on Thursday mornings and for Babies in Arms Story Time and Play Group at 1:00pm on August 10 and 17.
