Mountainside 125 Time Capsule Event – Oct. 22

Submitted by Rachel Pater

It’s time to journey back to 1995!

We are excited to announce that Mayor Mirabelli and Council are planning to open a time capsule from 1995. We will be opening and sharing its contents at 10 a.m. on October 22 at Constitution Plaza (weather permitting).

Opening the capsule will serve as a final celebration for Mountainside’s 125th anniversary. The capsule just happens to be 25 years old. It likely contains many interesting and sentimental items. If you would like to attend the event in person, information will be posted on the Borough Facebook page on the number of people we can accommodate at that time. It will be on a first come, first serve basis. This event will be live streamed on Channel 35 and 39, our Facebook stream and youtube channel.

We also want to fill the time capsule with items from 2020, and place it in an appropriate spot in Mountainside. We welcome our residents and community organizations to participate in providing items to be placed in the time capsule. Suggested items include photos, letters, news clippings, sports memorabilia, etc., and any significant item from 2020. A bin will be placed in the vestibule of Borough Hall to collect items. Please place your item in a zip lock bag and include your contact information inside. Please provide your items by December 1.

This special event is being coordinated by the 125th Anniversary Chairs, Councilwoman Deanna Andre and Councilwoman Rachel Pater. Please reach out with questions or ideas to either Councilperson at dandre@mountainside-nj.com or rpater@mountainside-nj.com.

We are looking forward to this special event and sharing the time capsule with our residents!
