The Borough of Mountainside, founded in 1895, will celebrate its 125th anniversary, the Quasquicentennial, throughout 2020.

“Cheers to 125 Years” was the slogan for the kickoff for the first of three 125th Anniversary celebrations. The adult only cocktail party sold out the Springfield Hilton Garden Inn with 350 residents in attendance on Friday, February 21, 2020.

The Spinners spun the tunes as many danced the night away. The Mountainside Newcomers were out in full force with over 40 members in attendance. Beautiful Mountainside represented as well with a table of 10. It was nice to see so many residents; young and old, mingling and catching up. Some residents have even requested this be a yearly event!

Mountainside businesses gave so generously when asked.Delicious desserts were donated from Prince’s Farm Stand, Mazzella’s Gourmet Market, Bovellas Bakery Cafe, Stage House Tavern, Echo Tap & Grille, The Bake Zone, Mosaico, Spanish Tavern and Famous Daves Bar-B-Que. Beautiful floral arrangements were donated by Christoffers Flowers & Gifts and Millburn Florist.

Deanna Andre and Rachel Pater are the council women heading these events. Jeanie Ruban and Cathy Jakositz were the chairs who executed this event with care and great attention to detail. Committee Members were as follows: Julie Demarco, Jennifer Doll, Chrissy Kiesewetter, Andi Hoy,  Michelle Monaghan, Christina Nixon, Susan Patterson, Gina Perrotta and Diane Roman.

A variety of events have been planned as part of a year-long, community-wide celebration. All of the events and activities will highlight Mountainside’s history and achievements.

In June, “Arts Inside Mountainside” will convene at Constitution Plaza. Residents will have the opportunity to showcase their artistic ability. The official date is to be announced. Finally, on Saturday, September 12 the “Mountainside 125th End of Summer Celebration” will be held on the grounds of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Residents will enjoy live music, children’s rides, games, food trucks and much more and is being coordinated by Gary Whyte.
