Millburn Public Library September 2023

Register for Library programs by visiting millburnlibrary.org/events. Registrants will receive a Zoom link for online and hybrid programs. All in person programs will take place at the Library building at 200 Glen Ave. Programs are free and open to all residents. 

PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS:

ANDREW CARNEGIE: FROM STEEL TO THE BUILDING OF LIBRARIES WITH RICK FEINGOLD

September 7, 7-8pm, Virtual

Andrew Carnegie amassed an enormous fortune in the steel industry and then became a major philanthropist. After Carnegie sold his steel company to J.P. Morgan he gave all his money away by building over 2,500 libraries. Many still exist today.

AUTHOR VISIT WITH BOO TRUNDLE

September 12, 7-8:30pm, Auditorium

Local author Boo Trundle will read from her new novel, The Daughter Ship, followed by a discussion with Millburn librarian Jon Michaud. Books will be available for purchase and autographing. 

CITIZENSHIP INFORMATION SESSION

September 20, 6:30-8pm, Virtual

Are you interested in becoming a U.S. citizen? A representative from USCIS (United States Citizenship & Immigration Services) will discuss the naturalization process, including information about eligibility and requirements, filing an application, and the interview.

HEARING LOSS & PREVENTING COGNITIVE DECLINE WITH HEARING DOCTORS OF NJ

September 21, 2-3pm, Auditorium

Are you over the age of 50? Have you experienced ringing or buzzing in your ears? Do you have diabetes or high blood pressure, or sometimes have difficulty hearing? Are you retired and having more and more senior moments? This program is for you! This program is also for you if any of these questions apply to someone you love.

COME & COLOR

Friday, September 8, 10-11am, Children’s Room

In-person event for children who love to color! Our crayons and coloring pages are back – children and caregivers are invited to drop by the library and color. Make some awesome pictures to take home. Tables will be set up with lots of crayons and many new coloring pages you can choose.

TALK, LEARN & CONNECT THROUGH READING PROGRAM FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS

Sept 19, 10:30am-11:30am, Auditorium

Speech Therapist Jessica Fernandez will present this program for adults and caregivers. Young kids can be there with their adults. We will have some books available for the kids to look at in the auditorium.

CRAFTERNOON

Sept 20, 4-5pm, Auditorium

For ages 4-12

What does crafts + afternoon equal? Why, crafternoon of course! Kids are invited to make a fun seasonal craft in the children’s room. Drop in.

BOOM BUCKETS AROUND THE WORLD DRUMMING WORKSHOP FOR KIDS

Sept 30, 2-5pm, Auditorium

Kids Drumming Workshop with Hector Morales. Participants have a blast playing everyday objects like buckets and garbage cans while they develop essential aural musical skills and learn how to read basic musical notation. Registration required.

National Chai Day is 9/21! Try some different types of chai and maybe you’ll find a new favorite.

TEEN LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS

For grades 7-12

Teen Read & Review

Get service hours for doing what you love: reading! Go to millburnlibrary.org/teens to see examples and access the Google form.

Overview:

1) There is a limit of 2 review submissions per month.

2) Books must be on the student’s reading level, preferably from the Library’s Middle Grade or Young Adult collections.

3) Every 100 pages = 1 volunteer hour + 1 hour for writing the review itself

JOB NOW (BRAINFUSE) – In addition to many resources for things like resume crafting, unemployment, and career assessments, get live help from coaches on anything from job searching, interviewing, and resume writing. Tools also include lessons & practice tests for Adult Learners, on citizenship, Microsoft Office skills, and more.
