Lunar New Year Festival – celebrating the year of the rabbit

Millburn Lunar New Year Festival 2023

The Millburn Short Hills Chinese Association (MSHCA) and the Millburn Institute of Talent (MIOT) hosted a Lunar New Year Festival in downtown Millburn on March 5, 2023, to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

It is a long-standing tradition for people to visit temples and street fairs after Lunar New Year’s Day (Jan. 22, 2023) to burn their first incense stick, pray for the prosperity and happiness of their loved ones and bring home special New Years goods that symbolize good luck.

The well-attended festival featured a vibrant street fair with authentic Asian food, live music, and cultural performances. There were also many hands-on activities for both adults and children, including carnival games with free prizes, scavenger hunts with special gifts, bouncing house and rides, dragon dances, and martial arts demonstrations, chess playing, to name just a few.

The Millburn Short Hills Chinese Association (MSHCA) is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit community organization of Chinese residents in Millburn and Short Hills. The MSHCA was established in 2005, its family membership has been growing from less than 100 participants to more than two-hundred-member families and 1,000+ members. The MSHCA was formed for the purpose of servicing the local Chinese community, introducing Chinese tradition and culture to residents, and actively contributing to local community activities.
