Hello Kenilworthians! Summer 2016 has come to a close, I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Summer with family and friends and a great Labor day. But September is here and you know what that means, it’s back to school and less than 4 months to Christmas! But who’s counting, I don’t want to stress anyone out.
September 8 is the start of school here in Kenilworth and if you’re driving to work please keep in mind that around the school zone things get a little hectic, especially during this month. Everyone driving your children to and from school try to give yourself some extra time, I know it’s hard but nothing is worth rushing and comprising the safety of our children, deep breaths parents you’ll get thru it I promise. Children impress your teacher on the first day and remind them that the Autumn Equinox is on September 22, that is the official start of fall.
It has been 15 years since 911, please remember this day in your thoughts and prayers and to our military who are still on the frontlines on the war against terror, Never Forget. On Saturday September 24, 9am to 12 is the Michael J Vitale Annual Health Fair at St. Theresa’s school, stop in and get checked out.
Looking forward into October, on the 1st and 2nd is the Community Wide Garage Sale, registration deadline is September 23rd. Following that will be our Fall Bulk Clean up, North side of town will be October 5 and South side of town is October 12. I’m sure some of you have noticed quite a few black pipes on the side of the road. NJAW will be doing a large water main replacement at various locations throughout the borough. This is a big improvement and it is my hope that it will be done with the utmost safety and consideration of our residents. Please be patient, there will be slight interruptions and some inconveniences, however our pipes are in serious need of replacement, good things done right take time. The Project is expected to continue into October and weather permitting we will be right on schedule. Reminder to all residents, September is also the Hurricane Season, with any luck we won’t have any bad storms come our way, take as many precautions as possible, Have A Plan! It only takes one storm to change your life, your home and your community. There are many websites out there that give helpful tips and ideas to prevent a disaster from happening, everything from properly securing your home to preparing for outages and emergency evacuations.
To everyone that has been doing thoughtful things and taking time out to volunteer or support all the functions and events, the success of Kenilworth starts with you, the people! Your pride shows and I consider myself lucky to be part of this town and its residents and business owners. Visit our stores and businesses and support our young people in sporting events, plays and other functions our strength is community. Business owners, we have two great organizations to be a part of, The Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, go check out a meeting of one or both, you may find new ways to network and grow your business.
