March 2018 Events at the Clark Public Library

Be sure to visit the library, located at 303 Westfield Avenue, Clark, New Jersey, to enjoy these free events for people of various ages. Please note, we will be closed on Friday, March 30 for Good Friday, and Sunday, April 1 for Easter.

NJ Maker’s Days
on Friday, March 9 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.
and Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NJ Makers Day is a statewide celebration of making and maker culture that takes place every March in the Garden State. On Friday we will have demonstrations of 3D doodler pens and green screen photo making, as well as a craft imagination station, a Let’s Stick Together project, Legos, and button making. Saturday we will offer Perler bead crafts and button making from 10 to 11 a.m., marble run making from 11 a.m. to noon, the Shoprite dietitian will be presenting a food program at noon, and we will have basic knitting instruction and green screen photo demos from 1 to 2 p.m. We will have 3D printing demonstrations and working on the Let’s Stick Together project from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Union County Division on Aging Services
on Monday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Do you have questions about services for seniors or their caregivers? The Union County Division on Aging will be at the Clark Public Library to answer them. Drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and noon and get answers to your questions about: pharmaceutical assistance, home energy assistance, home care, home delivered or congregate meals, caregiver relief, Medicaid, transportation, and other questions you may have.

Out of Rushmore’s Shadow:
The Luigi Del Bianco Story

on Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m.
Award winning storyteller Lou Del Bianco portrays his grandfather Luigi Del Bianco and tells the story of his unique contribution as chief carver on Mount Rushmore, one of our nation’s greatest memorials. Lou uses authentic photos, maps, and timelines to bring Luigi’s story to life! This program is sponsored by Clark Unico. Refreshments will be served.

Exploring Ireland with Photographer Joel Simpson
on Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
Explore the beautiful and rugged landscape of Ireland with photographer and world-traveler Joel Simpson. Mr. Simpson toured the entire island photographing both well-known and lesser known sites, making discoveries that are not in the guide books. Sit back and enjoy this photographic tour of Ireland’s ancient and Medieval sites, small towns and villages, and breathtaking coastline. Mr. Simpson will also discuss the practicalities of visiting Ireland, itineraries, and how to do it on your own and on a budget.

LEGO® Club
on Friday, March 16 at 3:15 p.m.
Join us for the LEGO® Club at the Clark Public Library! Create your own lego structures. Legos are provided by the library. Creations are displayed in the Children’s Area. For children in grades K to 5. No registration required.

Sunday Family Movie Matinee
on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m.
Join us for a movie and snacks! Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

Tinker Tuesday
on Tuesday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m.
Elementary aged children are invited to join us for our monthly afternoon of tinkering/crafting. Each month will be something new! All materials provided just bring your imagination and sense of fun!

Coder Dojo
on Saturday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
CoderDojo is a free programming workshop. Our goal is to help kids understand how to code and teach them to love coding. This event is for children ages 9- to 14-years-old. Please note that registration opens approximately one week before event.

Wolf Dog Visit from Howling Wood Farms
on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m.
Howling Wood Farms will be visiting the Library with their Wolf Dogs. They will be talking about their non-profit organization, wolves, and wolf dogs. Howling Wood Farms provides a safe sanctuary for these wolves. Patrons will be able to meet the Wolf Dogs. This Event is for 5-years-old and up.

Tales for Tots
on Mondays or Thursdays at 10 a.m. through March 29.
Stories, fingerplays, and songs for active listeners. Geared toward ages 2 to 3 with a caregiver. Older children are welcome! Thirty minutes of open play follows.

Baby Bookworms
on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. through March 27.
Stories, songs, nursery rhymes, and movement. Geared toward babies and toddlers under 2-years- old with caregiver. Thirty minutes of open play follows.

Stories & More
on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. through March 29.
Stories, movement, songs, and a craft for active listeners ages 3 to 5-years-old. Sorry, younger siblings may not attend. Registration is required.

Grown-Up Coloring Club Meets Weekly
on most Fridays at 1 p.m.
Coloring isn’t just for kids anymore! Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring for grown-ups. Relieve some stress while stimulating your creativity!  No registration is required.

Teen Tech Help
on most Fridays at 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m.
Do you have a new phone or tablet and need help figuring it out? The library now offers one-on-one assistance with a variety of technological issues. Sessions last one hour and may also focus on e-mail, e-books, Microsoft Office, or other technology questions you might have. Advance registration is required, so please call the Reference Desk at 732-388-5999 to schedule an appointment.
