A recent Linden High School graduate has been selected as a recipient of the 2020 JA High School Hero Scholar Award by Junior Achievement of New Jersey.
Makenzi Henry, a member of the graduating Class of 2020, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship for being a role model who exemplifies the importance of an education and giving back to the community. She was part of the LHS Junior Achievement High School Heroes program in her junior and senior years. The program takes high school students to visit elementary schools to talk about financial literacy, job readiness, and entrepreneur skills with their younger peers.
“Makenzi has really shown outstanding leadership while part of the program,” said Linden High School business education teacher Holly Sepulveda, who is advisor for the Junior Achievement program. “She has always guided others and set a good example for her fellow students.”
Henry applied for the award with an essay that talked about how JA helped her prepare for the workforce and the important lessons she learned by teaching younger students.
“We’re excited to announce that you are a recipient of the 2020 JA High School Hero Scholar Award!” said Catherine Milone, president of JA New Jersey, in a letter notifying Henry of her award. “The field of applicants this year was extremely competitive, and clearly, your leadership, courage, and dedication to the youth of your community have made you a most deserving recipient.”
