Fundamental Skills & Drills Basketball Clinic

The Boys & Girls Fundamental Skills & Drills Basketball Clinic is hosted by Coach Lance Jackson twice a month at the Linden Multi-Purpose Center. The clinic was designed to teach boys and girls ranging from ages 6-18 the basic fundamentals of basketball. Whether the child is a beginner or experienced play, they teach drills and strategies that benefit players on all levels. The coaches focus on various aspects of basketball, not just the physical. They teach the importance of mental preparation, teamwork, how to play from a cerebral standpoint, as well as the importance of exhibiting a positive attitude and working in harmony with others. The goal is to teach our youth life skills through sports. These are skills that will follow them throughout their lives.

Coach Lance hosts and oversees various programs for the City of Linden’s Department of Recreation. He also serves as a mentor and a Coach for kids of all ages in town and runs a travel basketball program for boys and girls ages 6-18.

Coach Lance has been joined by some amazing guest coaches during his clinics. Mr. Otis Livingston Jr. is currently a professional Basketball player overseas and a former standout player at Linden High School and George Mason University. Says Coach Lance, “Otis Jr. is one of the hardest working players I’ve ever seen and he has earned everything he has achieved. He’s a great young man!”0

Another guest coach is Ms. Tamecka Dixon. Says Coach Lance, “She is Royalty…an absolute Linden Legend!” Tamecka is a Linden native who became an All-American Basketball player for Linden High School, and went on to star at the University of Kansas, also achieving All-American Honors while there. After graduating from Kansas, Tamecka was drafted into the WNBA where she had a stellar career. Tamecka was a multiple time WNBA All-Star and a World Champion for the famed Los Angeles Sparks. Adds Coach Lance, “Tamecka is a wonderful asset and we are so blessed to have her support.”

Mr. Otis Livingston Sr., Otis Jr.’s father, is also a guest coach at the clinics. Otis Sr. is a multiple time Emmy Award winning Sports Anchor for CBS Sports. Says Coach Lance, “Mr. Livingston is not only a legend in his field, he is a pillar in our community. He is always available and ready to help out and assist whenever he’s needed. He brings us an abundant and overwhelming level of experience, professionalism and wisdom. He’s extremely humble and knowledgeable and always willing to share invaluable life lessons with all of us. He truly is a gem to have around.”

The upcoming dates for the next clinics are September 3 and September 10. Those that wish to participate can call Coach Lance at 908-474-8639 for times (by age).
