Linden Public Schools have been named among the Best Communities for Music Education in America for the eighth year in a row. Linden is one of just 738 districts across the country to be chosen for the prestigious honor for 2022.

The NAMM Foundation (National Association of Music Merchants) has recognized the district for its outstanding commitment to music education. Linden is one of just 45 districts in New Jersey and four in Union County to be selected.

“I am extremely proud of our department being recognized for this prestigious honor for an eighth consecutive year,” said Matthew Lorenzetti, supervisor of fine and performing arts. “What stands out is that despite the challenges we have faced, especially the past two years, we have been able to provide a meaningful and consistent music education for our students. This would not be possible without the support of our Board of Education, administration, staff, students, and community. This is not just recognition for our music department, but all of Linden.”

Now in its 23nd year, Best Communities for Music Education highlights outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who work together to ensure access to music learning for all students as part of the school curriculum.

“Linden Public Schools take great pride in our music education and our entire Fine and Performing Arts Department,” said Superintendent Dr. Marnie Hazelton. “Education in the arts is a vital piece of a well-rounded curriculum and has been shown to help students succeed in all areas of school. Thanks to our music teachers, students, and administrators, Linden has been able to maintain excellence year after year.”

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Linden Public School representatives answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
