Letters & Goody Bags

Recently, Franklin Elementary School in Rahway came together to show some love and appreciation to our veterans and active servicemen and women. The project all began when members of the school’s Blue and Gold Club sent a letter to all of the teachers at the school and asked them to participate. They asked them to have their students write a letter to the veterans and active servicemen and women. They also asked for donations based upon items that they were told that the active servicemen and women needed.
All of the grades wrote letters and it was great to see the school come together. Some of the letters were brought to the Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park, NJ and were distributed to the Veterans there. This surely put a smile on the veterans faces. The rest of the letters were placed in goody bags that the Blue and Gold Club members put together. The goody bags were then sent to the servicemen and women that are currently stationed overseas.
Franklin School’s Blue and Gold Club is a school based club made up of students that volunteer their time throughout the year to help with different community service activities. The club is overseen by the school’s nurse, Mrs.  Barbara Maher. They do a great job and we’re proud of these young men and women. Keep up the great work kids!
