Registration for the Kenilworth Public Library’s summer reading club for children and teens between the ages of 2 and 18 will continue through the month of July. To register call the library at 908-276-2451 or visit 548 Boulevard.
The first 250 children to register will receive a free summer reading club bag that contains a calendar of events, program fliers and other items of interest to curious young minds.
Summer has lots going on for young readers who visit the Kenilworth Public Library during the month of July and continuing through Aug. 4.
In addition to being able to earn free paperback books based on the amount of time spent reading, children who are members of the various reading clubs may participate in the following activities: Monday PJ Storytime (6:30-7 p.m.) for ages 3 and up, Tuesday Lap Sit (10:30-10:50 a.m.) for newborns through age 2; Wednesday Toddler Time (10:30-10:50 a.m.) for 2 year olds.

Registration is also required for the following weekly programs:

Bingo For Young Children
will be held on Thursday, July 13 (11:00-11: 30 a.m.)
for ages 3 & up.
Bingo For Children Who Can Read
will be held on Thursday,  July 27 (11:00 –  11:30a.m).
Open House Crafts
will be held on Fridays (11 a.m. to noon)
for ages 4 and up on
July 7, 14, 21 & 28 and August 4.
Lego At The Library
will be held on Thursdays, July 20 and August 3 this summer at 11:00am-12:00 noon. for children ages 4-12 years old. Children ages 4-9 years old must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. Each week children will have an opportunity to build their own creative project based on a weekly theme.
Registration is required. Kenilworth residents may begin to register one week prior to each session. Out of town residents may begin to register two days prior to each session, space permitting.
Lego at the Library is made possible through a grant from the Walmart Local Giving program.

Special events:

Rafael, the miniature horse will visit the library
on Thursday, July 6, at 11:00am –12:00 noon.
for children ages 4 and up and their families. Children will meet Rafael, a therapy horse owned by  Maureen Coultas, executive director of Hope’s Promise.  Children will have an opportunity to view a miniature horse up close, and learn about how therapy horses are helping children and adults with special needs.
This program was funded by The Friends of the Kenilworth Public Library. Registration is required.

Cartooning with Doug Baron will offer workshops for children ages 8 & up, teens and adults.
Learn how to draw various cartoon characters, and  improve artistic skills. Workshops with be held on
Tuesday evenings at 5:30 – 6:30pm on July 11, July 25 and August 1.
All supplies will be provided. Each workshop will focus on a different theme.
Kenilworth residents may register one week prior to each workshop. Out of town residents may register two days prior to each workshop, space permitting.
These workshops have been funded by The Les Malamut Art Gallery.

Children between the ages of 4 and 12 who are members of one of the library’s reading clubs may also register for the following special evening
events taking place on
Thursdays at 7:00 – 7:45pm:
Musical Celebration with The Bierkos on July 13, Comedy Juggling with David Darwin on July 20, Ways Of Water, a comedy science show presented by The Grand Falloons on July 27,  and Cool Science, an interactive science program presented by Wondergy on August 3.. Registration for each of these events will open one week prior to the event, with priority given to Kenilworth residents. If space permits, registration will open two days prior to each event for children who reside in other communities. These special events have been funded by a Recycling Grant and Clean Communities Grant given to the Borough of Kenilworth.
The library will give everyone the chance to celebrate their accomplishments during the Eighth Annual LibraryFest, an open house event scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10, between the hours of 5:30 and 7 p.m.
Participants will thrill to the amazing interactive science experiments  presented by Wondergy. Children will also receive a special balloon sculpture made just for them by Mark Dolson; marvel at the sleight of hand of magician Francis  Menotti, visit with beautiful Paso Fino horses in our parking lot (weather permitting), and receive a special gift from the library. Families attending LibraryFest should anticipate a forty-five minute time frame for participation in all of the evening’s events and all children in attendance must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
No registration will be required to attend LibraryFest. LibraryFest has been funded by The Friends Of The Kenilworth Public Library, and a Recycling Grant given to the Borough of Kenilworth.
