Members of the Jefferson School Early Act Club spent the winter break and the weeks leading up to it making nearly 200 rubber band mask lanyards for local first responders.
The Early Act Club, an elementary student service club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westfield, and the school’s Parent Teacher Organization donated masks with the handmade lanyards to the Westfield Police and Fire Departments, the Westfield Rescue Squad, and the Westfield Regional Health Department.
“We are so appreciative of the first responders’ hard work during this pandemic,” says Jefferson principal Dr. Susie Hung. “Thank you to our PTO for donating the masks and for supporting our efforts by supplying the rubber bands to make the lanyards.
Additionally, during the holiday months, club members collected over 300 winter coats for the non-profit organization Jersey Cares and 400 pounds of non-perishable items for the food pantry at Grace Presbyterian Church.
