Jack Louis Robert Potter earns the rank of Eagle Scout

BSA Troop # 129

Jack Louis Robert Potter earned the rank of Eagle Scout on August 9, 2023, from Green Brook Troop 129. Jack is a remarkable person who states, “I might be interested in working for the FBI or going to law school. My wish is to have an effect on people and be able to stop violent crimes in America.”

Jack started in Cub Scouts as a Bear and continued his path to Eagle Scout just after graduating from Watchung Hills High School in June. One of Jack’s earliest memories was making lifelong friends and getting to hang out with them every week and going on camping trips. Jack led by example to the younger scouts but always while laughing and having fun and encouragement, he had the leadership role of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.

When it came time to decide on an Eagle Scout Project, Jack wanted to give back to his hometown so he decided he would build and install an outdoor classroom with 8 benches and a podium at Green Brook Middle School. The benches are mobile and can be moved to any area around the school property so that “the teachers and clubs can freely use them and have a space for activities outside as opposed to a classroom”. Jack raised over $1,200 for the project and had over 30 people help with the work to accomplish his goal.

Jack, while completing his scouting work, also maintained his studies at school while also being part of Track and Field, Peer Leadership, Fencing, Band, and he earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Jack is preparing to head off to Rutgers University this fall to pursue his studies in Criminal Justice or Psychology.
