On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, members of the Crusader Athletic Leadership Council met in the Arthur L. Johnson High School IMC. This is the eighth year for the Crusader Athletic Leadership Council (C.A.L.C.), an organization that has been founded to help educate our student athletes on some of the expectations that we have for them as they compete interscholastically in a variety of athletics. We hope that by informing this council of some of our expectations, we will be able to foster an open and healthy relationship amongst our student athletes, the school culture, and the community of Clark.

Not only will this be of great help to all ALJ student athletes and coaches, but it will offer up a vast array of opportunities for the members of the Crusader Athletic Leadership Council, including the ability to place this activity on future college applications.

The C.A.L.C. was lucky enough to have motivational guest speaker Mike Murphy speak to the group. Michael J. Murphy is a retired police officer with 28 years of service. Michael holds a Master’s Degree and was a former D.A.R.E. Officer and National School Resource Officer. Currently Michael serves as the Head of the Security Team for the New York Giants. “Murphy’s Life Lessons” Presentation focuses on athletes and student awareness in regards to the pitfalls of alcohol, drugs, and making poor choices. Michael’s life experience has allowed for him to share his knowledge to athletes and students all across the country in preparation for the opportunities and situations that truly test their character and strength.

“The C.A.L.C. was thrilled to have Mike Murphy come and speak to us on multiple topics relevant to leadership, said Gus Kalikas, Athletic Director at ALJ. “Mr. Murphy reached all of our students and left them with great strategies that will not only help on the fields, courts, and mats, but also in the game of life. He was a true professional and inspires while delivering a wonderful message.”
