Grover Cleveland Gives Back
Submitted by Dr. Holness, Rahway Public Schools
When it comes to giving back, it’s undoubtedly engrained in the spirit of the Grover Cleveland students, staff, and parents. Giving is what Cleveland does all year long. So on the heels of Thanksgiving, it wouldn’t be any different; in fact, supporting the community got even bigger and better than ever!
Grover Cleveland School Nurse Mrs. Giammetta led this effort. Nurse Giammetta has embraced the school’s “Creating a Connected Cleveland” theme. During Mrs. Giammetta’s tenure at Cleveland, she has created her niche by serving those in the community. She has forged new relationships and partnerships with members of the Rahway community. In preparation for Thanksgiving, Nurse Giammetta reached out to Brother Rev. Hall, a member of the Prince Hall Affiliate Free & Accepted Masons, MOAB Lodge #70, Rahway, NJ.
Nurse Giammetta expressed to Rev. Hall her desire to create complete Thanksgiving baskets with turkeys, stuffing, and everything needed to make a meal. Rev. Hall, along with Worshipful Master Jimmy Sims, accepted the task. A week before turkey day Rev. Hall and the Brothers of MOAB Lodge #70 in several cars pulled up to Cleveland School loaded with all the Thanksgiving fixings. The assembly line of Masons and Cleveland staff was a sight to see as both groups worked collaboratively to unload and assemble 25 carefully crafted baskets.
Principal Giambrone was filled with joy! He said, “this is incredible; Nurse Giammetta has brought us all together to help others.”
The Brothers of MOAB Lodge #70 were delighted to support Grover Cleveland School and the community.
Nurse Giammetta was genuinely touched by the support of the Cleveland staff, parents, and students, who all donated food items. Nurse Giammetta said, “I’m so grateful for Rev. Hall, who supports Cleveland School, our students, and families. Many of our families have unknowingly been a benefactor of his generosity.” Hats off to Rev. Hall; it is certainly refreshing to know that Real Heros exist and live amongst us in the Rahway community.
Principal Giambrone said, “we are grateful that Nurse Giammetta’s compassion for others extends beyond the four walls of the nurse’s office and the students she treats.” She has taken a simple idea of replenishing the “Red House” at the end of the driveway with food weekly and has created a wave of “Care and Kindness.”
Now you know why “Cleveland Rocks!”
