The Grover Cleveland Elementary School community is thrilled to celebrate the success of its Girls on the Run program!
This impactful program, which kicked off in April, empowered young girls in grades 3-5 to develop self-confidence, healthy habits, and a strong sense of community through running. Led by the dedicated coaching team of Miss Young, Miss DiCataldo, and Ms. Suarez, the girls participated in weekly sessions that combined physical activity with fun and engaging lessons.
The Girls on the Run program at Grover Cleveland Elementary School went beyond improving physical fitness. Each week, the girls explored different topics that are important for young minds, such as:
Building self-esteem: The coaches helped the girls identify their strengths, develop positive self-talk, and celebrate their accomplishments.
Teamwork: Through running games and activities, the girls learned the importance of collaboration, communication, and supporting one another.
Goal setting: The program incorporated goal-setting exercises to help the girls develop a growth mindset and perseverance in achieving their goals, both on and off the running track.
The culmination of the program was a celebratory 5k run held on June 1st at Branchbook Park in Newark, NJ. The weeks of training and team building culminated in this exciting event. Parents, families, and friends cheered on the girls with enthusiasm as they crossed the finish line, filled with pride and accomplishment.
“We are incredibly proud of our Girls on the Run participants,” said, Mr. Giambrone Principal of Cleveland Elementary School. “This program has not only helped them improve their physical fitness and develop important life skills, but it has also fostered a strong sense of self-belief and community spirit. We are grateful to the coaching team for their dedication, creativity, and positive energy, and to all the families who supported their daughters throughout the program.”
The Grover Cleveland Elementary School Girls on the Run program is a shining example of the school’s commitment to fostering the well-being of its students. By providing opportunities for physical activity, social connection, personal growth, and goal setting, the program empowers girls to reach their full potential.
