Groundbreaking Ceremonies Held at Summit Schools

The construction at the High School involves expanding the Library Media Center to include a second floor with state-of-the-art instructional spaces to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Mathematics) curriculum. The construction at the Middle School includes the addition of instructional spaces and labs to support STEAM curriculum.
“These groundbreaking ceremonies are not only about construction; they are about enhancing a foundation for dreams and opportunities that will allow our students to flourish in the walls of the Middle School and High School. Our new courses and learning spaces will provide access for all students to learn the skills needed to be successful in the workforce of the future,” said Scott Hough, Superintendent of Summit Public Schools. “After over two years of hard work from many stakeholders both inside and outside of the school district, I am thrilled to witness and celebrate the official groundbreaking for our Investing In Our Future initiative.”
In attendance at the Summit High School groundbreaking includes Mayor Nora Radest, Summit Board of Education President Yon Cho, Superintendent Scott Hough, Business Administrator Derek Jess, Principal Stacy Grimaldi, as well as additional District and High School administrators, Summit High School students, and representatives of EI Associates, the architectural firm developing, planning, and overseeing the construction. In attendance at the Middle School groundbreaking includes Mayor Nora Radest, Board President Yon Cho, Board member Michael Colón, Interim Executive Union County Superintendent Daryl Palmieri, Business Administrator Derek Jess, Principal John Ciferni, as well as additional Districtand Middle School administrators, Middle School students, and representatives of EI Associates.
The groundbreaking ceremony at Summit High School was held on November 3, and the ceremony at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School was on December 8.
