Green Brook Rockers vs Harlem Wizards

Submitted by Chris Billman

For the third straight year, the Green Brook PTO held the Faculty vs. Harlem Wizards basketball game. The staff team was coached by Christopher Billman and the team was composed of teachers from IEF, GBMS, and also included many Green Brook community members. The game was held on February 23, 2024, at the Green Brook Middle School Gym.

The Harlem Wizards are a prime time show basketball organization delivering wildly successful fundraiser events for schools. The first year the faculty were called the Green Brook Bengals, last year they were the Green Brook Bricklayers and now this year the faculty were the Green Brook Rockers! Paying tribute to Green Brook’s Washington Rock and the fun music genre. The Green Brook PTO has raised thousands of dollars by having this fun event year after year. In the end, everyone wins because the PTO has generously used the proceeds for the benefit of the schools.

What makes a Wizards show “awe-inspiring” or as the kids and teens say, “Off the hizzle?”  Some say it’s the oohs and aahs created by the thunderous, sky-high slams. For others it’s the humor and seeing the teachers, parents and community members being good sports and having fun on the court with the Wizards. The comedy, the audience participation, the spontaneity delivered as a world class show, in an intimate and community setting adds up to a night to be experienced and treasured. Also, the students love to see their teachers outside the classroom.

This year was no different than the last two events. Despite a valiant effort by the Green Brook community, victory still went to the Wizards. But it is not just a game. It’s a fun, action-packed evening that mixes sport and comedy. Everyone who attended the event were the real winners. We hope everyone will Rock on and get their tickets early next year before the event sells out!
