Gloria Nisky Named 2018 Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year

Gloria Nisky, resident of Linden since 1962, has been chosen Linden’s 42ndAnnual Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year. This award is bestowed annually by the Linden Department of Public Property and Community Services Recreation Division upon the Senior Citizen who displayed the most exceptional service to the Community.
Retired since 1996, Gloria thought the years to come would be ones spent reading good books and taking long walks. She was wrong! Gloria started to fill her days and nights volunteering.
First was the Ann Ferguson Senior Club where she coordinated entertainment for events and set up flea markets for 10 years. At the same time her evenings were filled for 16 years being a member of Linden Chapter 595 Women of the Moose. Here Gloria was Guide, Assistant Guide, secretary/treasurer, and chaplain. She also did whatever was needed to set up, take down, serve food, and sell tickets.
Gloria also volunteered for 13 years at St. Elizabeth of Hungry Church with Pre-cana classes. And if you belonged to Linden’s AARP and saw it was snowing, you could count on a call from Gloria. She was chair for three years of the telephone squad.
Being a valued member of the Linden Citizens Association for the past three years, Gloria volunteered as chaplain this year. Chaplain must be in her blood because she has been and is currently the chaplain in the Retired Men’s Club of which she has been a member for 16 years. Here she has also been chair of the committee which serves weekly refreshments and special parties and holiday celebrations.
Gloria has also received the Senior Citizen’s Council-Special Person Award-2014. This award was presented from the Linden Retired Men’s Club to Gloria at L’Affaire Restaurant where Gloria was asked to model in Union County’s Generation and Style Fashion Show which she has done for the past three years.
So, you can see, Gloria has worn many hats during her Linden years, never once shirking from any responsibility and always ready to multi-task at a moment’s request. One can well comprehend that the above accomplishments point to a woman worthy of the title ‘Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year.’
All residents are invited to attend the celebration honoring Gloria Nisky as Linden’s JTG Recreation Center’s “Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year.” Please join us Friday, May 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., 330 Helen Street, Linden.  Refreshments will be served.
