Girl Scouts of Cranford Brownies Earn Philanthropist Badge with Multiple Service Projects

Submitted by Kerry Rokicki

The Girl Scouts from Brownie Troop 40967 rang in the New Year by assisting those in need. During the holiday season they completed several service projects which helped them earn the Philanthropist Badge, a designation that helps Brownies learn about helping others and distinguishing between wants and needs.

Brownie Troop 40967 completed three different service projects during the holiday season including holding a bake sale at Pet Valu of Garwood, N.J. to support Brendan’s Meadow Rescue, a dog rescue program based in Mountainside, NJ. A second initiative included creating a special Thanksgiving basket for a client at Cranford Family Care. A final project included sponsoring a Mitten Tree at Walnut Avenue School in Cranford. All donated hats, gloves and mittens benefited Saint Joseph’s Social Services Center of Elizabeth.

“The girls really learned a lot from this badge. They learned that by working together they could help make the world a better place, whether that was by raising money for a good cause or collecting goods to fill a specific need,” explained Ali McNulty, co-leader of Brownie Troop 40967. “We look forward to building on this experience as we seek out other opportunities to make a positive impact on our community.”
