Garwood PD carries Special Olympics Torch
Members of the Garwood Police Department took part in this year’s Special Olympics Torch Run held on June 11, 2021 by carrying the “Flame of Hope” through Garwood. It is a statewide, daylong marathon along 26 separate routes, involving 3,000 New Jersey law enforcement officers each carrying the torch thru their perspective towns.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run started in 1981 to raise money and awareness for people with intellectual disabilities to practice sports and participate in the Special Olympics.
Today more than 97,000 law enforcement members ensure the delivery of Special Olympics Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremonies of World Games.
