Garwood Historical Committee Remains Active Amidst Pandemic

Garwood Historical Committee News

Despite the damper that the COVID-19 pandemic has put on community organizations, the Garwood Historical Committee has been active.

A number of the signs that honor veterans of Garwood who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom were faded. The Historical Committee of Garwood worked with Police Chief Wright and the Garwood DPW to replace them.

The Committee has also partnered with the Garwood Celebrations Committee to participate in their Garwood Memorial Day service and co-sponsored a 20th Anniversary remembrance of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. The Committee placed a commemorative wreath at the 9/11 Memorial at Borough Hall.

The Committee also welcomed the opportunity to once again participate in the successful 2021 Garwood Rocks event in the center of our town.

The Garwood Historical Committee seeks photos and memorabilia of past Garwood events. While doing your spring cleaning, please think of the Committee before tossing anything related to Garwood and consider donating it to the Historical Committee for preservation. March marks Garwood’s 119th year. Compared to most other towns we are in our infancy, yet, many people have items of interest that could be saved for future generations to appreciate.

Also, please consider monetary donations to the Garwood Historical Committee. The pandemic has stretched budgets to their limits and every little bit helps our Committee continue the task of preserving Garwood’s history for you, your children, and future generations.

The Garwood Historical Committee meets the fourth Monday of each month to plan events that will create an interest in Garwood’s fine history. Contact the Historical Committee at garwoodhistory@garwood.org or come to one of our meetings to speak to us in person.
