Garwood Gets a Cleanup During Earth Week

Garwood Democratic Club Cleans Up North Avenue

On Saturday, April 24, on the last day of Earth Week, the Garwood Democratic Club launched its first cleanup as part of its adoption of North Avenue (Route 28) through the NJDOT Adopt a Highway program which the Club registered with in 2019.

The Club picked up 7 bags of litter and recycling, with cigarette butts being by far the single most common item. Smokers particularly – but all those using North Avenue and other roadways – are encouraged to properly dispose of their cigarettes and litter so they don’t enter our drinking water supply. The Club also picked up a diaper, straws, auto parts, plastic bottles, and plastic wrap among other items.

Those interested in assisting the Club in its future North Avenue cleanups are encouraged to contact Bill Nierstedt, 908-721-2208, williamnierstedt@gmail.com.
