“Together We Can Make a Difference”- Hip Hop and cultural awareness program

It was positive vibes only on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Franklin Elementary School as all students gathered in the gym for the culmination of a school-wide Hip Hop and cultural awareness program, “Together We Can Make a Difference.” The program aimed at helping students embrace the motto that we are “positive, excellent, able and focused.”

The two week PTO-sponsored Artist in Residence kicked off with an all grade assembly and was followed by the 4th and 5th graders spending 10 days rehearsing with the incredibly motivating Philadelphia based Hip Hop dance company, IllStyle and Peace. During the final performance, the older grades performed a series of Hip Hop-inspired dance vignettes teaching the importance of peace, love, respect and inclusion. The morning ended with a moving performance set to “We Are the World,” followed by an extra special “teachers only” Hip Hop set that even got Mrs. Tierney dancing!
