Four Centuries in a Weekend

The Union Township Historical Society invites visitors to an open house at the Caldwell Parsonage, 909 Caldwell Avenue, on Saturday and Sunday, October 21 and 22, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The event is part of Union County’s Four Centuries in a Weekend.  “Rev. James Caldwell,” aka Doc Burkhardt, through a Union County HEART grant, will greet guests.

Docents will provide tours of the Parsonage and of the Tool Museum in the adjacent carriage house.  Children (of all ages) will be able to:

  • make butter an old-fashioned way;
  • DIY Christmas ornaments and coasters;
  • use a wringer washing machine;
  • create tricorn hats and colonial-style bonnets;
  • make “church” dolls;
  • play colonial and Native American games;
  • collect Hannah Caldwell, James Caldwell, and Battle of Connecticut Farms trading cards;
  • getting Union County Passport booklets and having them stamped; and
  • shopping for souvenirs
